Working With God In His Creation
by Edwin Su
"Who am I ?" This is an age old question asked by all men and women who are concerned about the meaning and direction of their lives. Though one may look for an answer from within the secular culture, without a transcendental reference to guide ones understanding of a prerequisite question, "Where do I come from?," there will not be a satisfactory answer. Concerning the question, "Where does man come from?," the Bible has a clear proclamation. -- "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. . . So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them . . ." (Genesis 1) The main point revealed by Biblical creationism is not what the universe was like in the beginning, but that God is the creator, and His purpose in creating man. The main focus of the Scriptures is the relationship between God and man, and between God and the created world. When a person has a correct understanding of his or her relationship with God, with his/her fellow man, and with other material things, he or she will be able to establish a framework of principles to guide his or her daily life. This world view will give a person the confidence to answer questions like, "Where do I come from?", "Where am I now?", "Where will I be going?" He or she knows the reason why God created man. It is so that man can co-labor with God to co-create human history. Because of this, one will have faith, hope and love to face the challenges of life. One will be able to have a positive attitude and a sense of calling in both scientific and artistic endeavors. If you are a scientist, you can discover the wonder and the secrets of Gods creation. If you are a poet or an artist, the whole beautiful universe provides ready materials and inspiration. Since I became a Christian, the greatest reward has been knowing this Creator God, knowing that I belong to Him, originate from Him, am trusted by Him and am able to experience His creative work daily. Nothing in the world can replace such a wonderful experience.
